Adult Education
Hebrew Language
If you would like to participate more fully in Shabbat and Holiday services, then enroll in the adult class at Congregation Beit Shalom and learn how to read Hebrew. Cynthia Fischer/para-rabbinic teaches beginning and intermediate classes on Saturday mornings at 10am. Bea McFarland teaches beginning classes and gives private tutoring.
Introduction to Judaism
Introduction to Judaism is a 12 week course that covers a broad range of topics, Jewish history, theology, philosophy, as well as holidays, life-cycle events, practices, and rituals, as well as Introduction to Hebrew. The course is geared to both Jews and non-Jews who want to learn more about Judaism.
Following the course, students will have gained knowledge about the basic tenets and practices of Judaism, the tools with which to practice a Jewish way of life, and assistance in integrating into the Jewish community.
If legal conversion to Judaism is desired, there will be available individual counseling and guidance, a weekend Shabbat retreat, and support groups to discuss the process of this personal spiritual journey. Rabbi Neal Weinberg will meet with students in order to answer questions, direct further study, and sponsor individuals & families at the Bet Din.
